⚠️ Bonus Beware

Dawn Phenomenon

Early-morning spike in glucose due to normal hormone surges.

What It Is

🌅 Some people see a rise in blood sugar in the early morning.

Cause

  • 🧠Hormonal surges before waking — notably cortisol and growth hormone.
  • ⚙️These hormones can increase glucose production and reduce insulin sensitivity.

Monitoring

  • Check glucose before breakfast (and consider a 3–4 AM check or CGM review).
  • 📈Use CGM trend data to confirm a consistent early-morning rise.

Management

  • 🤝Often no immediate regimen change is needed if readings are otherwise on target.
  • 🩺If persistent or high, discuss with your care team for personalized adjustments.
